The city of Hamadan is situated 300 kilometres west of Teheran. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is referenced in the Bible as ‘Ekbatana' in the book of Esther.
The city is the centre of trading for the carpets manufactured in the hundreds from nearby villages, all with the own unique design.
Hamadan rugs are easily recognised for their typical patterns and sizes. The patterns usually contain a medallion and colours are dominated by different shades of indigo blue and madder red. The Hamadan carpets are manufactured with a soft, shiny and often natural dyed hand-spun yarn, this provides a very durable surface and beautiful colour scale.
All our hand knotted carpets are available to view by appointment at our Preston showroom.
