Runner Rugs
A runner is the hardest rug to buy well, because a hallway shows up anything that is the wrong width. These are all long, narrow designs — mostly 60 to 90cm wide — in weaves chosen to take heavy footfall.
Before you buy, read our guide to choosing a hallway runner — it covers measuring the hall, which fibres survive footfall and how to stop a runner slipping.
The rule we give in the showroom is to leave an even border of floor on each side, so measure the hall and come down from there rather than buying the widest runner that fits. Lengths generally run from 150cm to 300cm, with some ranges longer. Traditional runners from Da Vinci and Galleria suit a period hallway; the Blade and York ranges give a plain, textured runner for a modern one; and for a kitchen or a back door the Liberty Washable range is machine washable and non-slip backed.
Most of our runners match a room-sized rug in the same range, so you can carry one design from the hall through to the sitting room.
Every rug comes with free delivery to UK mainland addresses, and our family team — rug specialists since 1961 — is happy to help with sizes, colours or care. Order online, or see the rugs for yourself at our showroom in Lostock Hall, Preston, open Monday to Saturday.
