Oakley Charcoal Rug

Charcoal takes the jute right down to a deep grey-black, so the braiding shows as texture and shadow rather than as colour. It is an unexpected treatment of a natural fibre and a useful one, giving the practicality of jute to a modern or monochrome room that a pale natural would look wrong in.

Part of the Oakley collection — hand woven in India from braided jute with cotton and polyester, laid over a cotton backing to give an 18mm flatweave with no pile at all. The braiding gives the surface a plaited, ropey grain and a softer handle than jute usually manages.
